This dwelling received Pittwater Councils Civic Design awards for an extended/renovated project in 2004. The project consisted of total refurbishment and extensions to an existing modular 1960’s beach house. The client’s brief was to retain the simple beach house aesthetic and not to overpower the beachscape.

The design solution consisted of maintaining the existing floor levels and extending the structure in both the north and south directions. This enabled the house to sit comfortably on a lateral plane behind the dunes and become part of the landscape. Large areas of glass blur the definition between inside and outside in this unique environment.

The uncomplicated planning and interiors allowed the desirable qualities of the existing house to be maintained while affording the occupants the space and privacy they required.
